Tutorial: Trick or Treat Tote

Trick or Treat Tote Tutorial
(say that 5 times fast!!)

Edit: After realizing that the tutorial post was not showing up for Internet Explorer users, I concluded I had to redo the whole post. (Not easy for any of you who have ever done tutorials.) So now you can get the tutorial here as a PDF.

Sorry for all the confusion today, hopefully everyone can get it.

Things to Watch For!

Hey there! I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of fall and getting ready for Halloween. I love fall, it truly is my favorite season. I am adding the last of my "Halloween line" to the shop hopefully by the end of the week. I can't believe it but I've sold out of my Advent Calendars! They are only available now by special order, so get yours in quick so you still have lots of time to countdown!

A few things to watch for in the coming weeks:

1. My first tutorial! My Halloween "gift" to you!

2. My first giveaway! Wooohoo! I am working lots of late nights to get the shop stocked and ready.

3. "I Am Grateful For..." Quiet Book. This one has been a blast to design and I can't wait to share it with you all. It will be a completely customizable book and will be a great present for the holidays.

4. Christmas Items. It is almos that time of year! If you can believe it. The Christmas items will be trickling in hopefully in the next month or so. :)

Counting Down the Days

9/17/11 Update - I now have a pattern available for a Halloween Countdown Calendar similar in style

See this post for details.

I love advent calendars! As children, my mom made each of us our "own" Christmas Advent Calendars to countdown the days. Those calendars where loved and used so very much. I made a Christmas Advent eariler in the year that I absolutely love. Then this summer, I decided to make a Halloween Advent. I was inspired after seeing the Pottery Barn Halloween Advent a couple of years back and I came up with my version. I love Halloween and all the fun decorations and memories that come with it. I made another one for the Shop because the first one is already off to a happy home.

Enjoy! (My favorite part is the little ghost.)

A Spooky Banner for Your Home

This was way fun to make and super easy! The banner is made from felt and cotton fabrics. I got the idea of hanging it on ric rack because I heart ric rack. It makes anything happy! The ric rack had an unplanned effect...making it seem more 'vintagely'....or at least to me.

Spiders, Bats, and Cats...Oh My!

These are only some of the festive characters that are featured in my new Spooky Halloween Quiet Book. Each page features a character and in words the "sound" they make.

On the bat page, you can flap his glittery wings. The ghost page is two pages in one. Reveal what the ghost "says" by lifting up the orange page.

The spider page has cobwebs and all things spidery. Here, you lift up the cobweb fabric to reveal a poseable spider. (His legs are pipe stem cleaners, no exposed ends.) The next page features the silhouette of a black cat.

The next page features a trio of yummy candy corn. The last page features a friendly pumpkin page. Again, the page is two in one, lifting the page reveals a Halloween greeting.

Halloween Trick or Treat Tote

I love little totes for little kids. I especially love little totes for Halloween. So here it is. My favorite feature on this is the polka dot base with the green zig zag. I made the pattern on my own...that was an adventure! All I can say is...I love using interfacing on bags! It makes all the difference in the world! The little ghost from the advent makes yet another appearance.

North Pole Christmas Quiet Book

My mom made a wonderful quiet book for us kids. We loved that thing. I have wanted to make a quiet book for the longest time. My 'creative consultant' wink, wink, gave me the idea of doing one for Christmas. This is what came about. I love the cover, adding the ribbons to make a "Taggie" was one of those 11:00 at night ideas that I loved.

A Little About Me

What's with the Name?
Welcome to my little niche of the blogoshere and Etsydom. I am embarking on what you could say is a "dream" of mine. That is to simply to sew and create my own designs. This shop also is coming about because of my love for family traditions. I had many wonderful family traditions growing up. I cannot wait to provide my children with those same wonderful memories. You will see that many of my designs are focused around holidays or ways to make everyday special. As parents and members of any family, we all have that ability to influence our families for the better. Having strong family traditions is one way that we can influence our families on a daily basis. So Everyday Celebrations combines two of my hobbies; sewing and family traditions.

My Skills:
I have been sewing since I was a little thing. I remember making bags, pajama pants, blankets for my dolls, little quilts, etc when I was a little girl. My mom taught me the basics and I loved it. Once I hit college I really had a desire to really "learn" sewing skills. I took a children's sewing class and loved it. My final projects were a child's coat and a blessing dress. Those were my first two ever "major" projects and I still have them. After college I taught elementary school for 5 years. During that time I took a beginning quilting class and I was hooked. Since then, I have been sewing whenever I get a chance. I love making handmade items because of the uniqueness and creativity that goes into the design.

I hope to be adding items to the shop reguarly. Please comment with any questions, or requests for future items. You can also email me by clicking the Contact Me link under my banner.
