On A Search....Can You Help?!?!

I love chocolate chip cookies. LOVE them....who doesn't. However, since I got married my ability to make a DECENT chocolate chip cookie has gone comepletely down the drain.

My last attempt resulted in basically a "pan" of cookies that all ran together because my dough spread so much during baking. (And may I add, this was not the first time this happened.) Does anyone have any "tips" out there for making a great batch of cookies? Or better yet a great recipe that never fails them?

I wanted to make some last night but I just lacked the courage because I didn't want another failed batch.

So....share your tips or recipies...please. :)

  1. Do you put the dough in the fridge for a while before you bake them? That usually stops the spreading.

  2. You probably need to adjust for your altitude. If they run together that's a sure sign you need to add more flour. I remember you make a mean chocolate chip cookie :)

  3. I can e-mail you a recipe later. I've got a baby on my lap and so don't want to go get it right now. However, I will say you have to stir in the dry ingredients by hand. If you stir then in with a mixer you add too much air and that makes for a cookie that spreads.

  4. I'm shocked this is coming from you! In those good ol' Ricks days, your chocolate cookies were the best I ever had! You had a super knack and I remember being absolutely thrilled whenever you'd make them... which seemed fairly often, you sweet roommie you!!

I'm afraid cookies are not my thing, but good luck!

  5. This link is not where I found the recipe to begin with, but it's the same one and it rocks! These are incredibly light and awesome! Almost too light bc you can eat WAY too many!

  6. I gave up making chocolate chip cookies years ago, for the very same reason! They just never turned out well. So I've resigned myself to enjoying other people's cookies.

  7. I have a favorite recipe that has never failed as long as I followed it to the last item. You can get the recipe over at my blog.

  8. This is so funny that you have a post on this because I too think that my chocoalte chip cookie making skills went out the window when I got married. Just a few things to keep in mind, you are in a different spot in the country and the humidity will effect your out come just as elevation will... and I bet that you are using a different brand of sugar, flour, butter, etc. and that will effect the cookies a bit from what you are use too, it did for me.

  9. I use the recipe on the back of the chocolate chip bag. A trick I learned last year was to use Crisco (butter flavored) sticks instead of the butter. I also only use the mixer for creaming...I stir the rest in by hand. But it sounds like you might have bigger issues that you are dealing with :)

    Good luck!

  10. Hi there! I just found your blog today and have been going back through older posts and had to comment on this one. I use the recipe on the back of the chocolate chip bag and they would always turn out runny, so I started adding a 1/4 of a cup more flour than the recipe calls for and now they're perfect! My other little tip? Add just a pinch of cinnamon and it gives the cookies just a little something extra that makes them super yummy!
