Halloween Countdown Cards - FREE Printable

I told you I'd be back soon.

Today I am sharing a free printable of {30} printable 3" x 4" cards full of fun Halloween activities, jokes, and riddles.  Think things you are already doing for Halloween: carving pumpkins, going to the pumpkin patch, baking pumpkin recipes, etc. The activities are nothing overblown and don't require preparation in advance. If you've made my Halloween Countdown Calendar, they are the perfect size to slip right into those pockets. (The pattern is available here and for only $5 for a few more days. Yes, there are only 30 cards, but 31 days in October. The reason? Simple. I honestly don't see myself doing a Halloween activity a night with my family. I enjoy Halloween but it isn't my favorite holiday. Choose the activities you want to do and slip into the pockets on the day you want to do that activity.  For the days without a card? Do whatever you want! Slip a piece of candy in. Get some fun Halloween goodies from the dollar bins at Target, straws, pencils, etc. Keep it simple. Or you can be like me and just not do something that night! Keeping it real folks! (I did throw in some blank cards to write your own.) The point is to have fun and to create memories with your family. Keep it simple.

Don't have a Countdown Calendar? No problem. Print them out, pick the activities you want to do, punch a hole in the corner and slip on a binder ring. Done. No binder ring? Gotcha covered. A length of cute ribbon works just fine too. See my Thanksgiving and Christmas Countdown cards below? Same idea.

So there you go! Something super simple but oh so fun for this great time of year. I love fall and the lead up to my favorite time of year, Christmas. Can't believe we are already at October. How in the world did that happen? 2015 will be here before we know it.

Halloween Countdown Calendars...in stock!

Happy Monday! I am happy to share that my Halloween Countdown Calendars are made, in-stock, and ready to be sent to a Halloween-loving home! These are by far my favorite Halloween Calendars I've made to date. I love the fabric and since I have a thing for banners, the little bunting banner just makes me happy.

There are a few imperfections so I am offering it at a reduced price. See listing.) I also will have the Countdown Cards file available as a FREE download here on the blog in a couple of weeks. Welcome Back Halloween Countdowns

One of the first items I ever made and sold in my shop were my Halloween Countdown Calendars. They became  pretty popular, even with my very poor photography, and there was no way humanly possible I could keep up with making them to sell. Even though everyone doesn't sew, I decided to come out with a pattern a couple of years ago to help with the requests. It has helped, but I still get asked to make my Halloween Countdowns.

While at Joann's about a month ago, after recovering from the sight of Halloween fabric already, I found this uber cute Halloween print. The minute I saw it I thought 'Halloween Countdowns'. However, I didn't get any because I wasn't sure if I was up to making some this year. A week or so passed and I couldn't get that fabric and the idea of using it for Countdowns out of my head. So lucky for me, not too many people buy Halloween fabric in July, there was still a full bolt of it at Joann's when I returned a couple of weeks later. Here is a peek at the finished version. They will go on sale in my shop on Monday, I missed my good light to properly photograph it so I could be ready today.

So there you go! A return of a favorite. I may want to keep one of these for myself!

Halloween Banner

We are ready for Halloween at our house! Costumes are made, pumpkins are ready to be carved, and  the house is decorated.

Last week I made this fun Halloween Banner for my mantel and I love how it turned out. I made the banner using the Halloween Banner SVG file from Lori Whitlock. I cut the peices out using my Cricut and Sure Cuts Alot software. It was a pretty quick project and can't wait to make some more for other holidays. I hope to find some other fall/Halloween decor on sale this year and built up my stash of fall decor.

 Remember that wreath I mentioned a while back? It has been hanging happily on my mirror, love how it turned out. I also ended up making another for my front door. :) 

Just a little update. I am still working on my quilt tutorial and hope to have that done in a week or so. Can't believe we are Trick or Treating in a few days! I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween. I am especially thinking of all those on the East Coast in the path of Hurricane Sandy. It is hitting where I grew up in Maryland, so I am thinking and praying for all there.

What I've Been Up To: Giving a Facelift to...

...this little Halloween goodie.

 The 'original' was made way back in 2009. {Why does that seem like just yesterday?}

Loved it then, love it now. However, it needed a little facelift. So last week I whipped up a new one. New fabrics and a couple new pages. Perfect.

Then I got the crazy idea to make some kits. So over the weekend I took this box of Halloween goodness and assembled some kits.

The updated pattern and kits on track to be listed by Wednesday.

So...it isn't Monday. But I was able to get this done today and I just couldn't wait to post the pattern...

Boo Blocks

We all have seen our share of 'Boo' blocks or the like around blogland lately, right? Well I whipped up my version over the weekend and I have to say I love them.

To make my blocks I used digital papers from Summer Drigg's FREE digikits Dreamsicle and Vintage Oreos. With the power of Photoshop I added some text and a nice gray outer glow. Then it was simply a process of printing the images off as 4x6's @ .13 cents a pop, a little trimming and Modge Poding those babies to some scrap wood blocks I painted black. Talk about instant craftification....wow...did I just pen a new catch phrase? ;) Plus I had all the materials on hand which meant this project cost me a grand total of .39 cents....the dollar store can't beat that.

Anyways. It was a fun festive craft that I am sure to repeat for other holidays.

Tutorial: Halloween Matching Game & Winners!!!!

A couple years back I found some adorable Christmas fabric on clearance at a quilting shop and it was so cute that I couldn't pass it up. Of course I didn't know what I could use it for at the time but I bought it anyway. Fast forward to last Christmas and from that fabric I made this cute little matching game. I made a set for my family and a couple of sets for the shop and to give as gifts.

Then a couple of weeks ago I was at Joann's and I found a similar fabric that was Halloween themed. I snagged it and made a little Halloween matching game last night. This is really a quick project and can actually be a no-sew project if you need it to be.

Materials:
fabric that has a 'blocked' repeating print to it
fusible webbing choose either:
Heat n' Bond Lite - if you want to sew (purple package)  OR
Heat n' Bond Ultrahold - if you want a NO sew project (red package)
felt
iron & pressing cloth

Note: When you buy the fabric get enough so the print repeats itself so you have enough to have matching pairs.

1. Adhere the fusible webbing to the wrong side of your fabric. Cut out 'blocked' images using scissors or rotary cutter and ruler.

2. Cut enough squares or rectangles from felt for the entire set of matching cards. I cut mine about 1/2" larger than the size of the fabric images.

3. Remove paper backing from the fabric images and center on the felt squares or rectangles. Fuse in place following package directions. NOTE: Set your iron to WOOL when you adhere fusible webbing to felt or you will MELT your felt. Also place a pressing cloth between your project and the iron.

4. If you used the Heat n' Bond Ultrahold, you do not need to sew to reinforce. So you are done! I used Heat n' Bond Lite, so I just stitched around the inside edge of each fabric image.

5. Optional: Make a quick drawstring bag for storage!

There you go! Easy peasy!  Makes a quick project and a great gift. Don't want to make one? I have one set up in the shop looking for a home.

So now go, whip one up and play a fun festive matching game as a family!
